Interurban co-operation Estonia-Ukraine

In 2005 Saue City Government and Kozelets City Government signed a friendship and co-operation contract which determines such co-operation priorities as the development, territorial economy and planning, nature and environmental protection of the towns, increase of environment-related awareness and development of business, incl. tourism.

For the assistance of the interurban co-operation SA REC Estonia initiated the project

Supporting of environmentally friendly small entrepreneurship in Ukraine,

in the town of Kozelets

The aim of the project is to introduce to the representatives of the town of Kozelets (town officials, businessmen) the principles of environmentally friendly entrepreneurship through the Estonian experience and to assist at planning and developing of environmentally friendly entrepreneurship.

In the course of the project a 5-day training trip was organized for the officials of Kozelets City Government and small entrepreneurs of Kozelets, a publication regarding environmentally friendly entrepreneurship will be issued and a development plan of environmentally friendly tourism for the town of Kozelets will be compiled.

The elementary school pupils of Saue Secondary School and children and parents of the Kozelets kindergarten participated in the joint nature observation and compared, how spring arrives in their country.

The observers were called upon to mark out

the beginning of singing of blackbird and skylark

the beginning of cuckoo calling

the beginning of blossoming of coltsfoot, blue anemone, wood anemone

the appearance of white wagtail

the appearance of brimstone butterfly.

In addition were taken down daily air temperatures.

So for instance the observers detected that

the song of blackbird was first heard in Ukraine on March 13, in Estonia on March 26.

the first cuckoo calling was heard in Ukraine on April 10, in Estonia on May 6.

etc.

The observations were made by 47 children in 7 observation spots.

The activities are supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia and Saue City Government.

Saue is a little green town near Tallinn. The territory of Saue is 350 ha and population about 5300. This town lures people, who like to live in a small town close to the nature being at the same close to capital.

Kozelets is a small town with the population of 8900 people that is situated 70 kilometers from Kiev. First information of the settlement dates back to the 13.century. The Kiev-Tchernigov highway crossing the town is one of the transportation possibilities to Odessa. Pride of the town is the Bogorodic church, established in 1752-1763.
